For Foreign Entrepreneurs

Setting Up in Singapore From Overseas

What international founders need to know about owning, incorporating, and running a Singapore company — including directors, banking, and work passes.

1.Can a foreigner start a company in Singapore?
Yes, foreigners can fully own a private limited company in Singapore. You do not need to be a resident or citizen. However, you must appoint at least one local director who is a Singapore citizen, permanent resident, or valid Employment Pass holder.
2.Do I need to be in Singapore to incorporate a company?
No, physical presence is not required. You can set up your company remotely through a registered filing agent like us. Identity verification and document signing can be done online.
3.What's the minimum capital required to start?
The minimum paid-up capital is SGD 1. You can increase this later if needed for visa applications or investor confidence.
4.Can I work in Singapore after setting up the company?
To work and live in Singapore, you need a valid work visa such as an Employment Pass (EP) or EntrePass. We can help assess and apply for the most suitable pass based on your background.
5.What is a nominee director, and do I need one?
If you don't have a local director, you'll need a nominee director. This is a local individual appointed to fulfil ACRA's requirement. We provide compliant nominee director services with proper safeguards.
6.How long does it take to register a company?
With all documents ready, company registration can be completed in 1–3 working days. Work pass applications may take 2–8 weeks, depending on the pass type.
7.What documents do I need to provide?
Typically: a passport copy; proof of address (utility bill or bank statement); your business profile or resume (for work pass purposes); and details of the company name and structure. We will guide you through the exact list depending on your country of origin and visa requirements.
8.Can I open a bank account for my company?
Yes. Most Singapore banks allow corporate account opening for foreign-owned companies. However, they may require an in-person interview. We can recommend banks with more flexible remote onboarding policies, or assist with fintech alternatives (e.g. Aspire, Wise).
9.What are my ongoing compliance obligations?
Every Singapore company must file annual returns and financial statements, maintain a registered office and corporate secretary, keep proper accounting records, and submit annual tax filings to IRAS. We offer bundled compliance packages to manage all of this for you.
10.How can I get started?
